We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief. Because Iris West is alive and well & a total badass.

Unfortunately, not everyone survived Savitar"s wrath on The Flash Season 3 Episode 23 "Finish Line."
It turns out H.R. Switched places with Iris after rescuing her from Savitar"s lair. Now we know why the face-changing công nghệ suddenly reappeared on The Flash Season 3 Episode 22.
H.R."s sacrifice completed his hero"s journey. It made up for him accidentally giving away Iris" location lớn Savitar-Barry, and it gave him the chance to prove that he"s not a coward.
Not that we thought he was. Yes, he was a tad annoying when he first arrived on Earth-1. But he grew on us, và he meant something lớn Team Flash.
His death hit Tracy, Cisco, Wally, và especially Iris, hard.
Tracy: Why are you doing this?
H.R.: I couldn"t be a coward. I"m not a coward.
But in the grand scheme of things, it"s as low impact as it gets when it comes to killing off a member of Team Flash.
We know Tom Cavanagh isn"t going anywhere. Iris summoned Harry from Earth-2 khổng lồ try và convince Tracy khổng lồ help Savitar. Then, Barry asked Harry khổng lồ stick around.
And that"s a good thing. Harry"s the best version of Wells. He"s bonded with the team. He"s a genius. He no longer has the excuse of his daughter tying him to lớn Earth-2.
So it"s hard khổng lồ be too sad about H.R. Dying when he"s already been replaced.
I"m also not going khổng lồ be shedding any tears over Savitar-Barry.
For a moment, I did believe he wanted to lớn change. Mainly because of Iris. I saw his love for Iris shining through when she reached out to him.
It"s hard not khổng lồ be moved by that. As we"ve seen, all versions of Barry Allen love Iris West. So it made sense that he might be swayed back to the light side of things with her help.
Except that would have been too easy.
Cisco
Instead of doing the right thing, Savitar-Barry continued his quest lớn rise to God-status. In order to vị that, he needed lớn tear apart the speed Force. Or something.
No matter how much exposition dialogue The Flash offers, I"m still every bit as confused as Joe when it comes lớn time travel và the tốc độ Force. Maybe a physics degree would make watching the show easier.
I suppose it doesn"t matter in the kết thúc because, as usual, Cisco outsmarted the bad guy. & I will always applaud that. Especially when it lead khổng lồ an awesome battle sequence.
Barry shoving Savitar out of the suit và taking it over was so cool. Not as cool as Caitlin"s ice bridge on The Flash Season 3 Episode 20, but a close second.
Not only did Barry get the upper hand, but he proved to lớn his future self that he did learn his lesson. He knew he didn"t have khổng lồ be bad. Pain wasn"t the worst thing in the world. It was part of him.
I lượt thích the message this sends. We"ve all suffered. We"ll continue to lớn suffer. Life is hard. But we don"t have the luxury of moving through time to lớn fix our problems or get vì overs. We have lớn face the bad stuff.
That"s what Barry finally accepted.
Iris
Barry: Yeah, Joe. The future"s ours again.
But, let"s be honest. The coolest part of the entire scene was Iris coming in with the gun to deliver the final blow to Savitar-Barry.
He had it coming. She was protecting her friends, the man she loves, và bringing karmic justice to lớn the person who tortured her for months.
Joe West taught his daughter well.
Of course Iris wasn"t the only lady who had a choice to make.
When the big moment came, Killer Frost chose the right side. She stopped Savitar-Barry from killing Cisco. But she also chose not khổng lồ take the cure.
I always assumed Caitlin would end up as a hybrid between the two versions of herself so this wasn"t a huge shock. Although, I did expect her to lớn take the cure. I assumed it wouldn"t work the way Julian intended.
Now the big question is how long will Caitlin/Frost be on her own before returning to Team Flash? Not too long, I hope.

It was so nice to lớn see Iris reveling in the fact that she had a future again. & Barry"s eagerness lớn spread the good news was contagious. So of course we knew it had khổng lồ come crashing down around them.
Iris survived, but Savitar-Barry was not the only one who had a debt to pay.
For the millionth time, I"m lost with all this time travel stuff. What happens now?
JoeThe Flash Season 3 kicked off after Barry created Flashpoint so it"s fitting that it ends with Barry making up for that selfish mistake.
Again, I don"t really understand the lô ghích of why the tốc độ Force needs a speedster khổng lồ keep it going. But I"m proud of Barry for not even hesitating to step up. He knew it had to lớn be him.
His goodbyes were tear-filled và touching. The scene gave us a glimpse at how much each of these characters has grown. And Barry and Iris" farewell hurt the most.
She wanted him to stay. He wanted her to promise khổng lồ live her life and move on. As far as they"re both concerned, this is the end. He"s not coming back.
Again, I lượt thích the symmetry. They worried about saying goodbye lớn Iris, but Barry ended up being the one khổng lồ leave.
We know this won"t be the last time we see him. The show is called The Flash, after all. But will The Flash Season 4 pick up months down the line? Will it pick up with Barry in the speed Force? Will Team Flash be stable without him?
That"s what makes it a good cliffhanger. We may know that Barry will return, but we don"t know how or what shape he"ll be in. Maybe he"ll be sad to lớn leave the rest he"s getting in the speed Force.
Savitar & Killer Frost travel khổng lồ an mở cửa field where he opens a time portal. He tells Frost to lớn kill the black Flash when he comes out after Savitar. She does, saying, “See ya around, Hunter,” after black Flash freezes & breaks into pieces. Savitar has Frost shoot him with the tốc độ force bazooka while standing in front of the time portal. It doesn’t work và instead, it frees Jay Garrick from his prison in the speed force.
Team Flash arrives to lớn confront Savitar. Cisco taunts the evil speedster, telling him there was no way he would make something to help him. Instead, he made a skeleton key which just freed Garrick.
The battle’s on with Barry, Wally, và Jay chasing Savitar with some extremely impressive CGI effects and Killer Frost fighting Vibe và Gypsy. Savitar manages to wound Wally & Jay and knocks the wind out of Barry. Cisco gets the upper hand and knocks Frost lớn the ground in their fight. He walks up to her & puts out his hand to give her a deadly vibe hit. She looks up at him & tells him lớn go ahead and go bad. “Never,” he replies & tosses her the cure that Julian & her mother came up with. Cisco tells her he’s giving her a choice to lớn be Caitlin again. As he walks away, Savitar races up knocking Gypsy to lớn the ground và grabbing Cisco, declaring he’s going lớn pay for what he’s done.
Frost looks at Cisco, helpless in Savitar’s grasp, & her xanh crystal eyes turn back khổng lồ brown. Savitar raises up his arm to lớn kill Cisco when he gets hit with a strong cold blast & slammed into a tree. Caitlin saved Cisco! She walks over & gives him a hand getting up. Savitar approaches Cisco and Caitlin telling her he knew she didn’t have it in her. Barry speeds over & is about to hit Savitar but gets pinned down by him. Savitar warns Barry if he’s going to die, he’ll kill everyone Barry loves before he goes. Enraged, Barry vibrates his way into Savitar’s suit và forces evil Barry out of it.
Barry and evil Barry fight with Barry in the Savitar suit knocking evil Barry to the ground. Barry pulls out the blade in Savitar’s suit khổng lồ kill evil Barry, và Caitlin & Cisco look on concerned their friend is about to lớn become a killer. “Do it! You kill me, you become me. Either way, I live,” says evil Barry. Barry retracts the blade and vibrates, destroying the suit from the inside and making both Caitlin and Cisco smile. Barry delivers a knock-out punch to his evil time remnant after telling him, “I will never let the pain và the darkness determine who I am. I will never be you.”
Barry looks at Caitlin and Cisco who are smiling at him & he begins to walk over lớn join them. As he does, evil Barry gets up & starts to run toward Barry to lớn deliver a killing blow. A shot is heard and evil Barry falls khổng lồ the ground, his body almost instantly evaporating into the speed force. Iris shot và killed Savitar. Barry hugs Iris who says, “All these months you were trying lớn save me from him. Look at that, I saved you.”
The scene changes lớn the funeral for H.R. Iris delivers a short but meaningful speech on how H.R. Was there when they needed him most & that he’s her hero. Barry pulls Cisco aside and tells him what H.R. Whispered in his ear as he was dying. “This took strength, & he
Cisco, Barry, and Julian see Caitlin standing nearby. They join her and she says she’s sorry about H.R. Cisco asks her if she’s ready lớn come home and Caitlin replies, “I don’t have a home.” Julian tells her she always has a trang chủ with her friends – và with him – but Caitlin, looking sad, gives Julian back the cure Cisco gave her & says, “I’m sorry, Julian. I’m not Caitlin anymore.” “You’re not Killer Frost,” says Barry. “No, I’m not. I’m something else and I need lớn figure out what that is on my own,” answers Caitlin. “Hey,” says Cisco as he starts to move toward her but Caitlin looks at Cisco with pleading eyes & says in a desperate voice “Cisco, let me go.” As Caitlin walks away, Cisco, Barry, và Julian watch her leave, looking sad and feeling as though they still failed her.
At their apartment, Barry and Iris are talking about wedding plans when what feels like an earthquake hits. They notice lightning strikes over the city và reach out lớn Cisco lớn get lớn S.T.A.R. Labs. Once there, Team flash tries to lớn figure out what’s happening và after a few minutes, Wally và Cisco are able lớn get a fix on a power source. Jay and Barry realize it’s the speed Force that has become unstable. Cisco freed Jay from the prison Barry created so now it needs someone lớn take his place.
The team heads outside & Barry says he has lớn stabilize it by running into it. This of course upsets everyone, especially Iris who says there has to lớn be another way & tells him that Central thành phố needs The Flash. Barry walks over lớn Wally and says it will have one, telling him he’s ready. Barry says his goodbyes to lớn Julian & Harry who he asks to stick around & Harry replies, “Anything for you.”
The speed Force appears in the size of Barry’s mother và tells a very upset Iris that Barry, lượt thích all runners, has reached his finish line. His race is over. Iris pleads that she can’t take him with her, but Barry tells Iris she isn’t taking him; he has khổng lồ go. All of this started with his mistake, with being selfish and creating Flashpoint. “This is my penance. This is my redemption,” says Barry, finally taking responsibility for what he has done.
“My beautiful boy, it’s time to lớn rest,” says the speed Force. Barry tells Cisco not khổng lồ mess up what he has with Gypsy and that they’ll be looking to him now lớn lead. “I’m not a hero like you,” replies Cisco. “You’ve always been my hero,” replies Barry as he gives his best friend one last hug. Barry then says his goodbyes to Joe, hugging his surrogate father & thanking him for saving him when he was 11 by taking him in và giving him a trang chủ and so much love. Barry next approaches Iris who says through her tears they were supposed khổng lồ have their happy ending. Barry tells her she needs khổng lồ keep living her life lớn keep growing và loving and to keep running for him. He makes her promise to keep running, which she does. With one last kiss, Barry walks away and takes his mother’s hand as his friends và family watch. Barry turns to lớn look back và smiles at all of them as he enters the tốc độ Force which closes behind him. The storm is over & the speed Force is once again in balance.
The Flash Season 3 Episode 23 Review:
Action-packed, suspenseful, & heartbreaking, episode 23 titled “Finish Line” ends season three of The Flash with the most emotional & saddest cliffhanger of the series khổng lồ date, leaving two main characters lost from Team Flash quite possibly for good.
There are so many stand-out performances in this episode it’s hard to know where khổng lồ start. Grant Gustin does an amazing job of bringing to life the evil version of Barry with true eeriness và malice. Gustin created a villain who will haunt the series from this point on. His emotional performance at the over of the episode as Barry says goodbye khổng lồ his loved ones before going into the speed Force is one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in the show and Grant nails it.
Candice Patton once again is terrific as she conveys relief after she’s saved from her foretold death and reunited with Barry. That transforms into loss when she realizes there will be no happy ending for her & Barry as he has lớn sacrifice himself to save the city and maybe the world. The final scene is truly compelling.
The cast member who has had the best storyline this season has to be Danielle Panabaker. Her battle to stay Caitlin Snow before eventually becoming Killer Frost was entertaining to watch unfold, và Panabaker shines once again as she captured the struggle inside her characters when Caitlin finally emerges và regains control to lớn save Cisco from Savitar & help Team Flash win the day. The scene at the funeral where she stays back not feeling as though she has a right lớn be there and admits khổng lồ Barry, Cisco, và Julian that she doesn’t have a trang chủ and isn’t Caitlin anymore was truly heartbreaking.

With Caitlin lost và trying lớn discover who she is & Barry sacrificing himself khổng lồ the speed Force khổng lồ find redemption, here’s hoping season four will find the new Team Flash able khổng lồ find a way to bring both Barry and Caitlin back home where they belong.
